Date: July 23, 2014 - 6:00pm
Location: Ballroom 5

DESCRIPTION

From 2006 through 2012, the group called Offensive Security put out a series of collections of hacking tools that were called BackTrack. BackTrack Version 5 was released on August 13, 2012 and contained over 300 penetration testing (“hacking”) tools. Offensive Security decided to revise their entire approach and on March 13, 2013 the first version of their revised toolkit, Kali 1.0, was released.

This session will discuss the Kali distribution and show some of its powerful tools. It will cover the use of Kali both from a live DVD and also how to install it on a computer. Additional topics that will be discussed are building a penetration testing lab, virtualization, basic hacking techniques, NMAP, Nessus, and Metasploit. No prior cybersecurity experience is required to attend this tutorial.

OBJECTIVES

To introduce a very popular, very powerful free hacking tool collection and to illustrate how this tool collection can be used find weaknesses in a cyber defense.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

People who have experience with computers and who are interested in cybersecurity.
